The National Youth Chess Association event took place on 10th November 07, at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Wales was represented at

under 16 and under 12 level as "South Wales", although a small number of North Wal

es players were part of the Cheshire & North Wales teams.

Most of the teams were very strong, and the South Wales teams struggled in both age groups.

The under 16s finished 8th of 8 with 6.5/32 (best performances of 2/4 from Jac Thomas and Adam Davis), having taken a weakened team

in the absence of some top players. Cheshire & North Wales won.

The Under 12s amassed 18/48, finishing 7th of 8 teams. Daniel Wilmot (Swansea) starred with an excellent 4/4 on board 5, and

Harsith Maruthireddy also remained unbeaten on board 8. Cheshire & North Wales finished 5th

Thanks to all the players for their efforts against strong opposition. Mike Kilner
