WCU U2000 Jamboree 2008

The event took place at The Welfare, Ebbw Vale RFC, home of North Gwent chess club.  The three sides were evenly matched, with Gwent having an average grading of 1859, East Glamorgan of 1855, and West Wales of 1814.

West Wales defaulted 2 boards in round 1, with K. Smith not available until the afternoon, and a communications problem leaving their board 2 to make his own way to the venue.  He didn’t make it in time.

Round 2 began with a problem being discovered with the draw.  Several players were extremely helpful to the arbiter in trying to resolve the problem with time pressing on.  Eventually a draw was agreed to the satisfaction of the three captains.  West Wales defaulted board 2, their player having still not arrived.

There were a remarkable 7 wins for players with the black pieces in round 2, (and 12 black wins in total, to just 7 wins with white), which was dominated by Gwent.
